PROGRAM TOPIC: Domestic Violence Issues: How We Can Be More Effective In Assisting Our Clients in Mediation. Doreen Nicholas will provide an overview of 2018 Domestic Violence (DV) cases and incidents in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, proposed legislation for the 2019 AZ Legislative Session, the effects of DV trauma on children and other family members and ways to mitigate trauma, treatment options for DV offenders and methods to encourage their participation in treatment and tips for helping mediators to recognize and more effectively deal with DV issues in mediation.
PRESENTER: Doreen Nicholas is the Domestic Violence Response Manager at the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence (ACESDV). Doreen has over 40 years of experience both personally and as a worker in the Anti-Sexual and Domestic Violence Movements. Doreen serves on the Executive Board of the Arizona South Asians for Safe Families and she is a faculty member of the Arizona Victim Assistance Academy and the National Organization for Victim Assistance. Her focus is providing communities with a more comprehensive, flexible and compassionate response to Domestic and Sexual Violence. Doreen has extensive experience with community trainings for local, state and national groups, including a MCAFM workshop co-presented with Judge Elizabeth Finn, Victim Safety, Impact of Trauma on Children & Orders of Protection, on November 28, 2017.
